Hi there! My name is Joe and I‘m a technologist who builds consensus, removes obstacles, and gets it all done.
FUN FACTS ABOUT ME
Read about my previous roles, recent consulting work, as well as some complex and interesting projects I’ve tackled.
Currently I’m a Product leader and Sr. Technical Project Manager at [C]Worthy, a Boulder-based nonprofit funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy / ARPA-E where we are building the tools needed to ensure safe, effective ocean-based carbon dioxide removal. In this role, I lead technical project delivery and prioritization for our teams of scientists, software developers, and ocean modelers; manage our ARPA-E grant reporting and compliance; conduct user, partner, and market research; share leadership for our tech-to-market strategy; represent the company externally in various capacities; and catalyze all of the above to inform our product roadmap.
I hold a graduate certificate in Global Energy Management from the University of Colorado Denver J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities and Energy Management and am currently pursuing a part-time Master of Engineering in Engineering Management from the University of Colorado Boulder Lockheed Martin E.M. Program.
I’ve got over seven years’ product development experience as both a Product Manager and Technical Project Manager in renewable energy, carbon dioxide removal (CDR), decarbonization, data privacy, nonprofits, streaming media, and more, where I’ve built consensus while leading software development across multiple teams, helping hone product-market fit and general product strategy/go-to-market strategy in order to position teams, companies, and their products for success.
Some highlights:
already successfully taken a brand new B2B SaaS platform from ideation to enterprise (Fortune 500) onboarding
experience managing compliance with and delivery of federally funded projects
experience in both general and technical project management
have previously held a security clearance (secret/facility clearance) and could obtain one again, if needed
hold the Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) and Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO I) certifications from Scrum.org
multilingual (fluent in English and German, strong Spanish, as well as a smattering of others)
based in the Denver/Boulder area and have previously worked with hybrid, remote, and on-site teams.
WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER
I have experience in leading complex software product development in a variety of industries and verticals as both a Product Manager and Technical Project Manager, and also offer services as a product consultant and career change coach (especially for those moving from the arts/humanities/nonprofit worlds into tech particularly and the private sector more generally).
What do I look for in roles, projects, and teams?
Interesting and challenging work, talented and kind colleagues, and teams with fairly high emotional intelligence.
Outcomes over output, and forever refining a shared definition of “done.” Product methodologies, philosophies, or tips and tricks mean absolutely zip to me unless we are successfully delivering software.
Creating positive team cultures where people have room to love what they do; keeping drama out of the building and onstage/on TV where it belongs.
What industries do I love?
Energy, decarbonization, and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) are at the top of my list; they align most closely with my passions and my values, and I love how insanely complex the challenges there can be. But basically any projects with hard scientific, engineering, or infrastructure aspects to them will get me excited to dive in.
